A Muslim used to occupy the first row of every obligatory Salah in his Masjid for the past 40 years but one day he was unable to make it.
The first thought that came to his mind was
“Will people realize that I am not there in the first row?”
He immediately froze when he realised the consequence of his thought.
He was more concerned about his fellow Muslims thought of his absence rather than pleasure of Allah.
Immediately he started digging into this heart with questions like.
“When did I get my intention corrupted?”
“Will Allah accept any of my prayers of the last 40 years?”
And he turned to Allah in repentance
The Messenger of Allaah ﷺ warned us about this when he said:
“The thing that I fear most for you is minor shirk.”
They said: “O Messenger of Allaah, what is minor shirk?”
He said: “Showing off, for Allaah will say on the Day when people are recompensed for their actions: ‘Go to those for whom you were showing off with your deeds in the world, and see what reward you find with them.’”

May Allah keep our deeds purely for his sake.
